So me and June went to do live portraits at the Movember UK launch party on wednesday. It was a very trendy and glamorous party with all the moustache trimmings and retro stylistic touches. If I’d known there was going to be so much free booze and food I wouldn’t have eaten before I went, although I did manage to cram down a delicious bacon roll (may possible have been some kind of MANWICH, if that’s a thing).
This came about because of our involvement with the Gallery of Mo project, about which June has previously posted, which is us drawing people with moustaches for charity. Here are our promotional self portraits.
the Gallery of Mo team did an amazing job organising the live portraiture, which was so popular they probably could have had twice the artists and still not done everyone who wanted a portrait – if you are a corporate or entertainy type person reading this take note – people LOVE having their portrait done, you should probably hire us to come draw at your event.
here are some pics of us doing our portrait thing.
If you don’t know, Movember is an international phenomenon, where men grow a moustache in the month of November to raise funds and awareness for men’s health issues, predominantly prostate and testicular cancer. Cue jokes about checking your balls at the entrance etc. Movember and Sons is the official face of this charity and runs a lot of events and charity parties around the month of which this was one, they have almost 2 million registered ‘Mo Bros’ and ‘Mo Sistas’
Here is a sketch I did of the Gallery of Mo station of portraitists at work, because after my shift finished, I was just still in the drawing zone. Not because my sketchbook is where I retreat to in social situations where I don’t know anyone. Honest. June is bottom left of course, painting away beautifully.
and here she is with some of our and other artists’ finished portraits
I left on the early side because it was a school night, but the party was just getting swinging. However, I’m not sorry I missed whatever this was, because I have a deeply seated aversion to the chuckle brothers.
And finally here is just a sampling of some of the other talented artists’ involved in the Gallery of Mo project, you should definitely head over and check it out and order your own moustachioed portrait.
